Governor Newsom Update Regarding Masks in Schools

Feb. 28, 2022

Dear Fruitvale Families,

As expected, today the Governor's office released an update to the mask mandate in schools (link below).  To summarize, the school mask mandate is set to expire after March 11, 2022, and we will no longer require masking of students and staff starting Monday, March 14, 2022.  This is the first day of the fourth quarter for Fruitvale Students. Our District has advocated that individuals have the right to choose whether or not their child will wear a mask at school, and today‚Äôs announcement is welcomed news. The decision to wear a mask, or not, will be one that individuals and families can make.  Family decisions regarding masks and vaccinations will continue to be respected and valued on school campuses.  If you wish for your student to continue to wear a mask at school, please communicate with your child's teacher and principal so we can support you in your choice.

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your partnership, support, and understanding through the many challenges of the last two years.
