Music & Band

Fruitvale School District Music Program continues to grow and flourish.  Currently, at the elementary level, we offer band to 5th and 6th grade students who desire to learn to play a flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or percussion instruments.  This is a "pull-out" program that takes students out of their regular education class twice a week.  Students learn not only how to play their instrument, but they also learn the basics of music theory and how to play in a musical group.  They perform a Winter and Spring Concert for parents, family and friends that showcase their newly acquired talent.  Our goal, at all of our elementary schools, is to return choir back into the musical curriculum for our 5th and 6th graders -  like it was before the pandemic.  Fruitvale Junior HIgh School Band offers a great opportunity for experienced musicians and brand new students to improve and grow their musical talent.  Music theory, small group sectionals, and full band ensemble are the cornerstone of our musical instruction. Our program welcomes all skill levels  - from beginners to veteran players.  We are also looking forward to returning choir back into our music program for Fall 2022.

Performing Arts Program

Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of theatre arts. It is designed to accommodate students who have no experience or may have previously been involved in theatre. Students will use various creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement, and role-play. Through theatre games and activities, students will learn to lose inhibitions and will gain trust in themselves as well as others in their groups. Students will learn and use drama and theatre vocabulary in class discussions and the activities will specifically address the promotion and reinforcement of students' literacy skills, including reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will exhibit and reinforce their skills through individual and group presentations, performances, movement and voice, character building, and script and journal writing.
