Gateway
Gateway to Technology is the middle school component of the Project Lead the Way program.  PLTW is a prestigious, nationwide high school program that provides students with the tools they need to be successful in the Engineering and Biomedical careers.

Design & Modeling
In Design and Modeling, students are given an overview of the Engineering field, the Design Process, measurement, sketching techniques, and 3D computer modeling and printing.  Each unit will have hands-on projects that the student must complete to show sufficient understanding of the concepts taught. The equipment students will be using are Autodesk Tinkercad (CAD) software, vinyl cutters, some power tools and hand tools, dial calipers, and other necessary equipment. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to participate in the Robotics year long elective course as an 8th grader.  Students will acquire knowledge and skills in problem-solving, teamwork, collaboration, and innovation which will contribute to their success across the academic curriculum.

Computer Science
At a time when computer science affects how we work and live, PLTW Computer Science empowers students to become creators, instead of merely consumers, of the technology all around them. The program’s interdisciplinary courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges. As students work together to design solutions, they learn computational thinking – not just how to code – and become better thinkers and communicators. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.

Medical Detectives
Medical Detectives is a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) course . This course provides  students the opportunity to play the role of real-life medical detectives through hands-on projects and labs. Students will learn how to measure and interpret vital signs by taking temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure. They will also learn how the systems of the body work together to maintain health. Students will explore the nervous system and different diseases, including a sheep brain labeling and dissection. Finally, students will see how medical examiners and pathologists work as medical detectives through a simulated disease outbreak!

Medical Detectives is comprised of 3 Units:

Disease Detectives
Mysteries of the Human Body
Outbreak!
